Lead CDL Driver

Spee Dee Delivery is a family owned and operated company that was started in 1978 by Donald and Sylvia Weeres. Our core business is in standard, next-day, ground delivery. The corporate headquarters and main sort facility is located in St. Cloud, MN. We currently employ over 1,800 employees company-wide and over the years we have expanded throughout the Midwest.

Job Summary

The Lead CDL Driver is responsible for leading a group of CDL Drivers in their day-to-day duties.

Hours and Wages

• Monday
  - Friday, 7:30AM - completion of route
• 5 - 15 hours of overtime may be required each week
• Required to cover variable shifts (days/nights/weekends) based on business needs
• Paid OT at time and a half after 40 hours per week
• Starting wage: $25-$29 per hour, based on experience

Duties and Responsibilities

• Complete routes for employees who are absent
• Assist drivers with daily morning duties such as sorting freight, loading trucks, and other duties as needed
• Assist with the initial training period of new drivers
• Deliver and pick up freight in a timely manner from customers and shippers
• Inspect and report any mechanical problems with the vehicle
• Collect payments as needed
• Verify the content of pickups on shipping papers
• Notify management of any problems or discrepancies
• Maintain professional personal appearance as well as cleanliness of vehicle
• Participate in weekly meetings and communicate goals and assignments
• Travel may be required
• Perform other required duties as assigned

Skills and Abilities

• Ability to operate a manual transmission
• Must possess or have the ability to obtain a doubles/triples endorsement
• Must possess good customer service and organizational skills
• Must have leadership skills and the ability to make quick decisions

Education and Experience

• At least 21 years of age
• High school diploma or equivalent preferred
• Must hold a valid CDL Class A driver's license OR successfully complete Company paid CDL training program

Physical Requirements

• Ability to pass a DOT physical exam
• Ability to bend, lift, twist, climb stairs, while moving freight on and off company vehicle
• Ability to lift and move freight weighing up to 100 pounds
• Ability to work with all types of freight which include, but are not limited to hazardous material, perishable food and alcohol, firearms, ammunition, and live animals
