Lead and oversee grounds maintenance and janitorial duties at the NEW Zoo and Adventure Park with a high level of detail and attention. Perform minor repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance of facilities and equipment. Adhere to Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) standards and NEW Zoo/Brown County policies. Report discrepancies and suggest improvements to the facilities manager. Provide instruction to seasonal staff and volunteers.
Help or aid park guests. Document tasks completed. Weekend shifts required. Snow removal required.
Responsibilities:
Performs general facilities maintenance including, but not limited to:
- Cleaning and replenishing restrooms
- Cleaning lobbies
- Washing windows
- Cleaning floors and walls
- Cleaning and replenishing wash stations
- Emptying trash and recycling receptacles
- Replenishing janitorial closets
- Replenishing soap and sanitizer dispensers
- Minor repairs, installations, and preventive maintenance
- Other work as instructed
Performs general outdoor maintenance work including, but not limited to:
- Lawn maintenance
- Weeding
- Pruning
- Raking
- Leaf and path blowing
- Tree removal
- Invasive species knowledge and removal
- Pest control
- Snow removal
- Salting
- Other work as instructed
Maintains structures, walks, and ponds including:
- Painting
- Pressure washing
- Asphalt repair
- Playgrounds
- Snow removal
Maintains written records and logs.
Updates SDS and grounds/janitorial procedures.
Oversees inspections of pest control, fire extinguishers, first aid, and AED equipment.
Responds to inquiries, requests, and/or complaints from members of the public.
Instructs and/or assists volunteers or other assigned personnel in proper work techniques and methods as appropriate.
Assists in enforcement of park ordinances and park security.
Operates and maintains equipment necessary in the performance of duties in a safe and appropriate manner including:
- Mowers
- String trimmers
- Hedge trimmers
- Saws
- Drills
- Pressure washer
- Pumps
- Golf cart/UTV
- Power tools
- Skid steer
- Zoo vehicles
- Snow removal equipment
Loads and unloads materials.
Attends meetings and training sessions.
Performs related functions as assigned.
Education and Experience:
High school diploma. One year experience in facilities and grounds maintenance preferred; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the necessary knowledge, skills, and abilities. Training and experience in the housekeeping profession is desirable.
Licenses and Certifications:
Valid Wisconsin Driver's License. First Aid/CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain. Current knowledge of housekeeping procedures and techniques. Knowledge of purchasing procedures. Knowledge of principles of documentation. Knowledge of handling hazardous materials. Ability to use hand and power tools. Ability to operate truck, snow removal equipment, including Skid steer. Ability to organize and plan activities. Ability to recognize safety problems and issues.
Ability to operate custodial equipment. Ability to perform work while on ladders. Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing. Ability to demonstrate a positive image of the facility amongst clients and visitors. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff and the public. Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions. Ability to work the required hours of the position.
Ability to operate grounds keeping equipment.
