Overview

Summary

Provide clinical surgical services training for designated Organ Operations staff; provide and coordinate orientation training for new staff including Surgical Recovery Coordinators, Organ Recovery Coordinators, and Perfusion Coordinators; provide and coordinate ongoing education activities from internal and external sources for assigned staff. Ensure compliance with UNOS and CMS staff training requirements.

Compensation Range for this position: $83,000 - $93,500 annually

Responsibilities

Essential Functions

The following essential functions are the basic job duties that an employee must be able to perform, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Adhere to all policies and procedures in carrying out the responsibilities of this position.
  • Develop training materials, plans and schedules to support staff trained in organ recovery and perfusion; conduct and coordinate delivery of training for Operations staff that meets or exceeds regulatory requirements and industry standards.
  • Create training materials using the most appropriate content modalities.
  • Maintain documentation of all training activities.
  • Generate reports, create assignments, and change user information for assigned staff using learning management software.
  • Conduct in-the-field observations and evaluations of Organ Operations staff to assess their deep understanding of critical job skills/core competencies in the OR and Perfusion labs; identify opportunities for remedial training and/or continuous education.
  • Participate in the identification and training of clinical preceptors and preceptor as needed.
  • Plan, develop, and evaluate the preceptor program to enhance the orientation process and promote staff retention.
  • Provide guidance to the preceptors through educational programs and ongoing coaching and mentoring.
  • Schedule and conduct post-activity debriefing sessions with trainee and preceptor; validate strengths/weaknesses and achievement/non-achievement of training objectives for the trainees.
  • Document training evaluations and determine when a trainee can be signed-off for independent practice in collaboration with department leadership.
  • Assist other departments in professional education programs as assigned.
  • Maintain proficiency in all clinical aspects of the Surgical Recovery Coordinator (SRC) and Perfusion Coordinator (PC) role through competencies and shifts as an SRC/PC.
  • Participate in meetings, staff development days, and internal and hospital case debriefings and departmental quality and process improvement activities as assigned.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education and Training Required

The following identifies the minimum education and training required to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in healthcare related field or equivalent experience in an operating room or clinical environment required.
  • Completion of a Certified Surgical Technologist, Surgical Technologist or First Assist program preferred or previous experience in the Tissue or Organ recovery industry or experience in the allied health field.
  • Other candidates may be considered on an individual basis at the discretion of management.

Experience and Skills Required

The following indicates the minimum skills and experience required to perform the essential functions of the job.

  • A minimum of 1 year of experience and demonstrated competency as a Surgical Recovery Coordinator or combination of relevant experience and demonstrated competency as a Surgical Recovery Coordinator / Perfusion Coordinator.
  • Previous training/presentation/education experience or coursework preferred.
  • Ability to create and deliver training content through multiple training modalities.
  • Ability to adapt training approach to suit a variety of learners.
  • Ability to design training programs, pre- and post-tests, and course evaluations.
  • Knowledgeable in Excel, Word, PowerPoint with the ability to become proficient in online learning management system.
