Tasks:
Responsible for independently and proficiently performing technical nursing responsibilities to provide quality patient care
Effectively copes with unanticipated problems and suggesting methods of correction or prevention.
Excellent communication and technical skills
Possess the ability to make independent decisions that can affect the quality/outcome of animal life
Monitors animal health status and records, provides nursing care, notifies veterinarian when status changes and records in medical record.
Participates in review of inpatient cases/treatments and gives assistance where needed
Cares for small animal patients as well as special species, provides treatments according to veterinarian's orders
Ability to multitask and prioritize while assisting/teaching 4th year students and student employees
Bring a positive, helpful, and collaborative attitude to the unit and hospital. Listens effectively to others and contributes to a positive working environment.
General cleaning and maintenance of work areas
Providing support for decontamination and sterilization departments
Follows personal, hospital, and section policies and procedures
Participates and understands the importance of working as a team member within the hospital structure (i.e. communication with supervisors and faculty for enhancing productivity and quality patient care).
Oversees and assures that high quality nursing care is administered and maintained in the primary care of animal patients.
Contributes to the instructional needs of the teaching hospital.
Assists supervisor in problem solving activities and administrative tasks.
Demonstrates good interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively communicate proposed ideas and solutions.
Participates in other technical and support duties as assigned.
Working flexible, on call hours and variable shifts as required by the hospital.

Qualifications:
Requires the ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. independently and physical and manual dexterity to perform specialized technical tasks.
This position is posted at Vet Tech levels 1, 2 and 3. Level is determined by qualifications based on type of prior veterinary tech experience.
To qualify for Level 1:
Entry level, new CVT grad with minimal experience.
To qualify for Level 2:
Generally, over 2 years of veterinary tech experience, may substitute years of experience for specialization.
To qualify for Level 3:
Veterinary Tech Specialist (VTS), or highly qualified and specialized in a specific area, may have prior experience from another university hospital.
License/Certification:
Required
CVT - Certified Veterinary Technician
Work Schedule:
Rotating shifts Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday Evenings 4:00pm-12:30am
Includes Saturday and Sunday days from 8:00am-4:30pm
Position will include additional holiday and on-call hours as required by the hospital.
Full-time hours could be supplemented in the Emergency and Critical Care Unit (ECC).
Work Type:
Full or Part Time: 40% - 100%
It is anticipated this position requires work be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location.

Salary:
Minimum $20.00 Maximum $30.00 HOURLY
Depending on Qualifications
In addition to the base pay listed in this posting, earn an extra $3.00/hour for night shifts and $1.80/hour for weekends, creating a total shift incentive potential of nearly $4.80/ hour!
Sign on bonus of 5% of base pay (based on FTE) to be paid in two installments over first year of employment.
