Job Purpose or

Summary:

Provides differential diagnosis for patients with functional disorders, including writing reports for contracted facilities and patients’ physicians. Plans, organizes, and conducts therapy programs in hospital, institutional, or community settings to help rehabilitate those impaired due to illness, injury, or psychological or developmental problems. Assists the patient, family, and appropriate restorative personnel to obtain information relative to specific disorders while in the rehabilitation setting to facilitate patient recovery.

Interacts regularly with other members of the rehabilitation team and nursing staff on the patient's treatment plan, progress, and prognosis. Evaluates patients' progress and prepares reports detailing this progress. Ensures that all required written documentation is completed and appropriately placed in a timely manner. Tests and evaluates patients' physical and mental abilities and analyzes medical data to determine realistic rehabilitation goals.

Responsible for the care delivered by COTAs.

  • Provides differential diagnosis for patients with functional disorders, including written reports for both contracted facilities and patients' physicians.
  • Establishes and carries out treatment programs based on available diagnostic information to meet patients' activities of daily living needs.
  • Assists patients, families, and appropriate restorative personnel to obtain information regarding specific disorders in the rehabilitation setting to facilitate recovery.
  • Interacts regularly with other members of the rehabilitation team and nursing staff regarding the patient's treatment plan, progress, and prognosis.
  • Maintains good rapport with all significant administrative and restorative nursing personnel in all facilities in their area.
  • Ensures that all required written documentation is completed and appropriately placed in a timely manner.
  • Submits logs and all billing information promptly.
  • Reports any problem areas within each facility to the appropriate supervisor immediately.
  • Complies with the State Licensing Board of California, Title 22, CMS, and California Labor Board Guidelines.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Licensure/Certification:

    Must have a Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Occupational Therapy or a related degree plus 5 years of experience. Alternatively, a Master's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Occupational Therapy or a related degree with no experience is acceptable. Must be licensed as an Occupational Therapist in the State of California.
