A well-established manufacturer that is experiencing substantial growth is searching for an experienced Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer to join their team.
Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer Responsibilities:
Equipment Design, Engineering & Selection
- Develop and select equipment that aligns with project requirements, ensuring efficient performance, energy usage, and durability across blenders, mixers, dryers, ball mills, and pressure vessels.
- Create detailed 3D models, perform engineering calculations, draft designs, and generate bills of materials for custom systems.
- Develop comprehensive blueprints, including fabrication, machining, and assembly instructions, ensuring accuracy and clarity.
- Act as the primary engineering liaison for client specifications, ensuring open and transparent communication with internal teams, vendors, and clients throughout the project lifecycle.
- Support Sales, Engineering, and other departments by providing specialized knowledge and assisting clients in selecting customized systems for their specific applications
- Innovate and refine system designs, focusing on continuous improvement and product reliability, while contributing ideas for expanding product offerings.
- Collaborate closely with specialized engineers to ensure that design, simulation, compliance reports, manufacturing and testing meet project specifications.
- Develop and oversee testing protocols to validate the performance and integrity of selected designs, analyzing results and adjusting specifications as needed.
- Liaise with external suppliers for new part development, reviewing supplier designs against ASME code, customer specifications, and company standards.
- Coordinate with suppliers during fabrication, including shop visits for kickoff meetings, critical inspections, and feedback sessions.
- Conduct detailed drawing reviews and approve designs to ensure adherence to customer and performance requirements.
- Test custom systems against requirements, solving design challenges, and resolving tolerance issues as they arise.
- Prepare and approve technical literature, including product documentation, whitepapers, case studies, and training materials for Marketing and Sales.
Collaboration:
- Assist sales and customer service teams in understanding specific client requirements and recommending suitable equipment designs and options.
- Identify opportunities for continuous improvement, aiming to enhance design quality and manufacturing efficiency.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. P.E. preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical design engineering, specifically within industrial or process equipment manufacturing.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling software (e.g., Solid Works, AutoCAD) and experience with ASME code compliance.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes, design for manufacturability, and fabrication techniques.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to manage multiple projects.
- Effective communicator with experience working in cross-functional teams and interfacing with clients and suppliers.
- Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement initiatives.
