POSITION OVERVIEW
Under the direction of the Site Supervisor, Program Assistant, lead instructor, the Program Leader/group leader will provide assistance and tutoring to students in the after school/Summer program, and will assist with engaging academic, enrichment, and programmatic activities with groups of up to 20-25 students. Program Leaders will provide opportunities for students to develop & strengthen academic, social and team building skills.
This position will provide hands-on experience from mornings to afternoons beginning at 9:00 am and ending at 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday. Group Leaders provide supervision while planning, offering and providing support to Teachers and instructors and the Site Supervisors.
KEY ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ensure activities, classrooms and sites are prepared for instruction for participants and staff.
- Maintain supervision and observance of staff to student ratios and communicate with all staff.
- Provide and set up organized activities in the classroom.
- Supervise and implement outlined instructions as it relates to participants and program.
- Maintain program areas by instructing clean up after all day’s activities.
- Positively and successfully perform within work team dynamics.
- Maintain lists of supplies and equipment.
- Support workshop trainings including but not limited to orientation, on-the-job training, performance support, and assessment of youth career readiness.
- Able to perform basic administrative tasks.
- Assist with planning of Work/Career readiness, health, community development workshops.
- Able to keep detailed records, time sheets, and write proficiently.
- Able to be punctual and reliable.
- Work effectively with people.
- Organize and plan.
REQUIREMENTS
- Must be at least 18 years of age and obtain CPR/First Aid classroom course certification.
- Education & practical training in sports, fitness, games, crafts, cooking, science, outdoor recreation and other social recreational and educational activities.
- Must have (a) High School Diploma, or (b) 24 or more college units.
- General understanding of youth development and proper disciplinary actions.
- Must be able to work five days, 30-35 hours per week.
- Must have experience working with youth ages 14-15.
- Must possess strong classroom and behavioral management skills.
- Must be able to communicate openly in a professional manner with students, parents, community partners, and after school and school day staff.
- Excellent time and project management, critical/creative thinking, and problem-solving skills.
- Demonstrated classroom experience.
- Excellent record keeping.
- Strong technical capabilities.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience.
- Proficiency in Spanish is desired as well as background teaching.
- This position is a consultancy that will take place during Summer hours.
