Your Opportunity at SECURE

The Transfer Station Technician is responsible for receiving containerized and bulk hazardous and non-hazardous waste material, reviewing and completing waste documentation and scale tickets, identifying, consolidating, and repacking various waste streams, and completing day-to-day tasks such as facility inspections and equipment maintenance. Waste tracking, shipping & receiving, and safety documentation are key aspects of this role, and the successful candidate will be part of a team ensuring all aspects are completed in a timely fashion meeting management and regulatory expectations.

Work

Environment

This position entails a standard 40-hour workweek from Monday to Friday, with occasional on-call duties. This role may require flexibility in shifts, extended hours, weekend work, and occasional travel as dictated by business needs. Candidates must be prepared to work in challenging work environments including working outdoors in all weather conditions.

A Day in The Life
  • Update waste tracking systems and communicate with Project Coordinators and the Billing team.
  • Identify, verify, and receive hazardous and non-hazardous waste entering the facility.
  • Ensure all required documents adhere to legal requirements as well as maintain compliance within SECURE guidelines.
  • Ensure waste is accurately packaged, classified, documented and stored.
  • Consolidate and repack waste as required for efficient processing and transportation.
  • Perform field level waste identification tests as required to ensure paperwork accuracy and compliance.
  • Prepare waste samples for laboratory analysis as required.
  • Actively participate in safety meetings and daily tailgate meetings.
  • Perform repair & maintenance tasks and general labour duties
  • Actively participate in continuous improvement actions such as Hazard Identifications, non-conformance reports, Hazard Hunts, and Inspections.
  • Abide by SECURE’s Occupational Health and Safety Program
Skills, Experience & Qualifications
  • Technical and regulatory knowledge related to the hazardous waste disposal industry, with the ability to ensure compliance with TDG Regulations.
  • Shipping and receiving/general warehousing experience would be an asset
  • Post-Secondary Science education related to Chemistry, Biology or Environmental Studies would be an asset.
  • Effective time management skills and ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines individually and part of a team.
  • Competent computer skills including MS Office and ability to learn SECURE’s suite of waste tracking and compliance programs.
  • Attention to detail and an ability to accurately complete various documents such as waste manifests or bills of lading, inspection reports, and safety paperwork.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and spend a significant portion of each day on your feet.
  • Physically fit and able to perform physical tasks including lifting, pushing, pulling, opening, or closing various containers and other heavy objects.
  • Experience operating a forklift or other mobile equipment would be an asset.
