The Corrections Hearings and Release Officer makes decisions regarding the release, restructure or revocation of release and facility discipline violations of adult and juvenile individuals committed to the custody of the Commissioner of Corrections.
Responsibilities include:
- Conduct hearings regarding alleged violation of conditions of release at state and county correctional facilities and individual discipline regulations at state correctional facilities in accordance with federal laws, state statutes, administrative rules/regulations, case laws, and department policies and practices.
- Conduct appearance or non-appearance reviews of release and parole plans and approve or modify conditions of release for adult individuals based on assessed criminogenic needs and available community resources to ensure public safety and compliance with federal laws, state statutes, administrative rules/regulations, case laws and department policies and practices.
- Review and approve requests by supervising state and county corrections agents to restructure conditions of release for both juvenile and adult individuals.
- Review and evaluate warrant requests by supervising state and county corrections agents for alleged violations of conditions of release and determine whether a warrant or apprehension and detention order should be issued.
- Conduct continued facility reviews on-site or via video-conference on adult individuals that return to the state correctional facility following:
1) revocation as a release violator;
2) returned on a continued disposition as a release violator;
3) returned on a detention status to await local prosecution; or
4) returned as a Medical/Mental Health fugitive release violator. - Conduct appearance and non-appearance juvenile facility reviews at Minnesota Correctional Facility (MCF)-Red Wing or other contract juvenile facilities to assess program progress, promote and encourage positive adjustment, grant parole, approve parole conditions, assess parole supervision progress, and to consider discharge from juvenile jurisdiction prior to or at the age of juvenile expiration.
To promote a culture of flexibility, we offer staff a hybrid work environment that varies by team, position, and business needs. This position will require in-office work at least one (1) day a week. About once per month, all staff attend a collaborative in-person meeting in the office. Completion of a telework agreement will be required. Teleworking employees are required to live in Minnesota or a bordering state in a county along the Minnesota state line.
Note: This position requires in-state travel up to 10% of the time and may include on-call work as needed.
QualificationsMinimum QualificationsTo be qualified for and considered for this position, applicants must meet all of the minimum qualifications listed below. Ensure that your resume contains descriptions of your work experiences sufficient for comparison against the requirements stated below and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.
- Three (3) years of experience in a correctional environment providing case management, victim services, participating in facility discipline hearings, or providing, delivering, or coordinating community supervision services to individuals under a correctional authority or a court civil commitment while they are either living in the community, in a correctional facility, or in a secured human services facility.
