Required Qualifications:
- Current license in Occupational Therapy by the MN Department of Health
- Certification from National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in occupational therapy from an AOTA accredited institution
- Experience in pediatric and/or school occupational therapy
- Experience in preschool age evaluation, assessment, and intervention
- Excellent oral and written communication including report writing and family interview skills
- Knowledge and experience with Special Education due process and ECSE/Part C requirements
Desired Qualifications:
- Understanding and experience in community resource systems
- Computer and data management skills
- Bilingual preferred
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate students referred for possible exceptional educational sensory and motor needs and prepare written reports of the evaluation and findings. With the IEP team, use federal and state criteria for decisions regarding service provision.
- Collaborate with Child Study Teams in assigned buildings, IEP team members and other school personnel in providing appropriate services for students. Work with the IEP team to develop an appropriate educational plan including specific and measurable goals, objectives and adaptations in the student’s educational environment.
- Provide consultation, indirect and direct treatment to individuals and groups of special education students determined to need occupational therapy to benefit from their special education.
- Develop treatment plans, collect data on students, review student progress, and write progress reports as specified on the student’s IEP.
- Keep data and submit third-party reimbursement forms on all students who have billable IEP services.
- Supervise Certified Occupational Therapy Assistants, as assigned to the OTR, and in conjunction with current professional standards.
- Consult with educational staff about the following: instructional techniques related to fine and gross motor skill development, sensory strategies, activities of daily living, visual motor skills, and positioning and neuromuscular development.
- Communicate effectively with families/caregivers and other service providers in areas related to occupational therapy evaluation and intervention.
- Attend and actively participate in child study meetings, IEP team meetings, Motor Team meetings, parent/teacher meetings and other meetings as assigned by building principals.
- Evaluate, prescribe and provide services supporting effective use of technology devices and adaptive equipment for students when appropriate.
- Other related duties as assigned.
