What do Camp Counselors do?

The Camp Counselor is responsible for a group of children ages 3-14 years. Responsibilities include but are not limited to supervision of children, program development, staff development, general maintenance, safety, parent involvement, and communication.

  • Assist in planning, supervising, and implementing camp programs in accordance with guidelines from American Camping Association (ACA)
  • Provide quality care and supervision to children (visual, proactive, interactive)
  • Provide a safe environment for all children to thrive
  • Track attendance, ensure a valid membership is on file, and children are released to caretakers
  • Guide behaviors using positive methods, keeping in mind each child’s individual needs
  • Assist in supervising activities and lesson plans
  • Ensure the program is delivering Healthy Eating and Physical Activity (HEPA) standards
  • Set up and cleanup of the program area including vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, trash removal, etc.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and foster connections with children and families

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Previous experience working in a related field preferred
  • Complete required certifications within 30 days of hire
  • Complete all required Branch and Position specific trainings as required within two weeks of hire
  • Ability to obtain a criminal record clearance
