Job Description

Individuals in this role will be responsible for the repair and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, electronic, hydraulic, and pneumatic equipment. They will work with a wide variety of hand tools and power hand tools and may use welding and cutting equipment and machine tools. This role requires working with oils and lubricants and performing specialized work that necessitates experience and training related to skilled trades.

This role also includes repairing, overhauling, and servicing mechanized equipment, such as hoists, elevators, conveyors, mobile equipment, and hi-lifts. Responsibilities include carpentry work in construction, repairing or modifying structures, cabinets, scaffolds, shelves, offices, and fixtures. Individuals will use brushes and spray guns to paint interiors and exteriors, including preparation of surfaces and mixing paints. They will install and maintain utility lines for gas, water, air, etc.,

including general plumbing work. Furthermore, they will inspect, install, relocate, repair, and maintain plant electrical equipment, including motors, switch boxes, panels, instruments, starters, control devices, power circuits, and feeders. The role also involves installing, moving, repairing, and maintaining mechanical and electronic selecting devices, as well as removing, installing, repairing, and checking plant mechanical devices and equipment. Individuals will cut, braze, and weld various metals used in the construction of forms, guardrails, catwalks, runways, and stairs, and work with furnace line personnel to install and adjust oil burners.

They will also inspect plant equipment and follow the preventative maintenance program.

Individuals will be trained Monday-Friday from 7 am to 3 pm and then assigned to a crew to work rotating shifts. Rotating shift work involves working 7 consecutive days of an 8 am-4 pm shift followed by 3 days off, then working 7 consecutive days of a 12 mid-8 am shift followed by 2 days off, and then working 7 consecutive days of a 4 pm-12 mid shift followed by 2 days off, and then starting back on the 8-4 shift.

This amounts to working 21 days with 7 days off in a 28-day cycle.

The apprenticeship is an 8,000-hour program and is governed by federally approved standards. Those who are hired will be required to complete a minimum of 144 hours of approved classroom training each twelve months. Classroom training is through local technical schools and is taken during non-working hours, with no pay while attending. All courses, textbooks, and fees will be paid at 100% by Anchor Glass Container.
