EMS Operations Manager​/Educator

Job Description:

The EMS Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily operations, supervising field personnel, and ensuring compliance with company regulations. This role serves as a direct liaison between field crews and upper management, addressing customer and patient complaints while providing technical assistance to service providers. The position emphasizes the use of advanced technology and equipment in delivering emergency and non-emergency medical services.

VMT prefers that the candidate possess a valid I/C (Instructor Coordinator) License to effectively train and supervise personnel in emergency medical response protocols and ensure compliance with state and training standards.

• Supervise response teams, including paramedics and emergency medical technicians (EMTs). This includes instructing, assigning, and reviewing their work, maintaining standards, addressing employee issues, and handling assigned disciplinary cases.
• Oversee Paramedics and EMTs as they respond to emergency calls, ensuring compliance with applicable state and federal laws, local ordinances, established policies, procedures, and protocols.
• Be capable of performing all duties and skills outlined for a Paramedic.
• Provide medical care at both Basic Life Support and Advanced Life Support levels.
• Manage day-to-day operations on the assigned shift, ensuring proper maintenance of vehicles and distribution of supplies.
• Maintain the schedule for assigned personnel and approve paid time off (PTO) for team members.
• Implement quality assurance programs and attend meetings as directed.
• Track time and attendance for personnel and handle disciplinary actions in accordance with policies.
• Oversee and order supplies for the assigned area and instruct continuing education courses.
• Supervise Patient Care Report (PCR) documentation and ensure completeness for assigned personnel.
• Ensure patient safety during extrication procedures and utilize protective equipment appropriately.
• Respond to incidents involving multiple casualties following established disaster response plans.
• Maintain clear communication with EMS personnel, hospital staff, and medical personnel.
• Perform inspections and prepare reports detailing observations, incidents, and treatments performed.
• Operate the mobile medical unit in accordance with state law and established procedures.
• Attend conferences, seminars, workshops, and classes as approved.
• Research and stay updated on trends in emergency medicine and treatment.
• Maintain cleanliness and perform minor maintenance tasks at the Emergency Medical Services facility.
• Assist in training new personnel and perform other duties as assigned.

• Excellent communication skills and experience interacting with community groups.
• Demonstrated ability to provide strong leadership and strategic direction.

  Education and Experience:
  • Associate's Degree in Emergency Medical Science with at least five years of experience in emergency medical service; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Five years emergency response experience.
• Moderate knowledge of MS Office suite software and experience in EMS operations software.
• Must possess a valid state driver's license.

• Current Tennessee and Registry Paramedic Certification
• Tennessee Driver License
• I/C Credential in the State of Tennessee
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (Instructor)
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (Instructor)
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (Instructor)

• Successful candidate must submit and pass a post-offer, pre-employment physical examination, drug test, and criminal background check.
• May be required to submit to annual TB and rubella screening.
• Work within the Vital Medical Transport Compliance Program.
• Maintain all certifications and licenses throughout employment.

• Must be able to work in all environments and stressful situations.
• Must be able to sit for prolonged periods of time.
• Must have functional hearing and vision.
• Employees must assist with patient movements using an ambulance stretcher and perform various physical tasks.
