DATCP‘s Division Animal Health is recruiting for a
Veterinarian Specialist Advanced
to fill an employment opportunity in the Bureau of Animal Disease Control; as the veterinary program manager for the farm raised deer/chronic wasting disease program. The position plays a major role working with the cervid industry and other agencies to manage the state‘s farm raised deer and Chronic Wasting Disease Control Program.
Where We Are Located:
This position is assigned to work out of the Prairie Oaks State Office Building . DATCP is located in the Prairie Oaks State Office Building situated on Madison‘s southeast side. We are only minutes away from the Beltline Highway, Interstate 90 and Highway 51 for quick access to local restaurants, retail and service locations.
Telecommuting Option:
This position may have the ability to telecommute. An approved telecommuting agreement is required before an employee may telecommute. Approved telecommuting locations must be within Wisconsin.

Step into a role that combines the science of veterinary medicine with the art of program management and outreach.
This position serves as the veterinary specialist and program manager specific to a program within the Division of Animal Health. The position works with industry and other state, tribal, national and international organizations in the development of, disease control methods, testing protocols, management practices, and educational materials. The position reviews laboratory results, works with the WI Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory, and takes appropriate steps to uphold the laws of the state and federal governments.
The position provides training, education and outreach services in the area of disease control to division staff, private veterinarians, livestock producers and the public. The supervisor provides administrative direction with assignments in terms of broadly defined missions and functions. The employee has responsibility for independently planning, designing and carrying out program initiatives and managing their budgets within the confines of the resources available.
The position provides support for program veterinarians in epidemiology during disease outbreaks and investigations. Work may encompass a variety of species ranging from traditional livestock to exotic animals.
This role is primarily office-based (90%), with opportunities for fieldwork and hands-on veterinary care, requiring occasional travel.
