SCHEDULE: 16 - 40+ hours/wk; opportunities for overtime pay and flexible schedules
REPORTS TO: Parks Supervisor
CLASSIFICATION: Nonunion
SALARY RANGE: $17 - $20 (hourly)

This position assists the full-time Parks and Forestry Crew staff in skilled park maintenance and landscaping activities throughout the city. This position often involves physically demanding work in adverse weather conditions for prolonged periods of time. Opportunities for overtime and flexible schedules! Must be at least

Essential Job Functions
  • Primary responsibilities include mowing city parks and properties
  • Perform general and skilled maintenance activities at park facilities
  • Operate, repair, and maintain a variety of tools, equipment, and vehicles
  • Assist with general landscape maintenance including weeding, planting, spreading mulch, pruning, mowing, and watering throughout city parks, buildings, and properties.
  • Clean park shelters and restrooms, maintain athletic fields and courts, and assist with special events.
  • General maintenance, water testing, and cleaning of Family Aquatic Center
  • Cleans and disinfects restrooms, sanitize toilets, sinks and drinking fountains, restock restroom supplies as needed, collecting trash in city parks and shelters.
  • Assist with light duty maintenance tasks such as painting, sweeping, playground equipment repair, cleaning and small parks projects.
  • May assist with tree trimming, tree removal, and brush chipping
  • May assist with woody and herbaceous invasive species management
  • Utilize computer systems for inventory and work order procedures.
  • Regular use of Toolcat, trucks, Polaris Ranger, hand tools, chainsaws, etc.
Requirements of Work

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL, ABILITIES:
  • Experience with materials, methods, techniques and equipment used in landscaping/grounds maintenance.
  • Experience with operating and safely using tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Experience with maintenance and repair of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Experience and/or education in trades such as carpentry, construction, small engine repair, plumbing, electrician, heavy machinery operation, etc.
  • Ability to understand and carry out verbal and written instructions usually acquired through a high school diploma or GED.
  • Ability to work holidays and weekends (on rotation), flexible shifts and hours!
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid non-probationary Wisconsin driver's license. CDL preferred but not required.
WORK CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
  • Employees in this position must be able to lift/carry objects weighing up to 50 pounds frequently and must be capable of lifting 70 pounds maximum weight. In addition, they must be able to frequently bend, twist, squat, climb, stand, and reach for extended periods of time while performing tasks (e.g. brush collection).
  • Employee is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions throughout the year.
  • Occasional exposure to construction site conditions including noise levels and other hazards.
  • Must be able to move over uneven, rough terrain while operating push mower, weed whacker, and other equipment.
  • Must be able to sustain prolonged and repetitive squatting, bending and stooping while performing tasks, such as brush collection.
  • Must be able to stand (or sit) for extended periods of time.
