The City of West Linn Parks and Recreation Department is seeking responsible, enthusiastic, and outgoing individuals to join our team as temporary (non-benefited) Seasonal Park Attendant from May to October. This full-time position requires 40 hours per week, including at least one weekend day throughout the summer. As a Seasonal Park Maintenance Attendant, you will help maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for park visitors by assisting with the upkeep of park facilities, including trails, landscapes, restrooms, and recreational areas.
Duties will include regular cleaning, basic landscape maintenance, and routine inspections to ensure safety and quality standards are met. Strong communication, teamwork skills, and a positive attitude are essential. While previous experience in park maintenance or similar outdoor work is preferred, a strong work ethic is key to success in this role.
As this position is front facing with the community the candidate must:
Under the general direction and support of the Parks Supervisor and/or Full Time Park Maintenance staff.
Responsibilities:Landscape Maintenance:
- Mowing, edging, and trimming grass and vegetation in park areas.
- Watering plants, trees, and flower beds.
- Planting flowers, shrubs, and trees.
- Pruning trees and shrubs to maintain aesthetics and safety.
- Mulching and weeding garden beds and pathways.
- Removing litter and debris from park grounds, trails, and parking lots.
- Sweeping and cleaning park paths, restrooms, and picnic areas.
- Emptying trash bins and recycling containers regularly.
- Cleaning and disinfecting public restrooms.
- Operating and maintaining tools and equipment (mowers, trimmers, leaf blowers, etc.).
- Performing minor repairs on park equipment such as benches, tables, and trash cans.
- Ensuring Park trails and paths are clear of debris and in good condition.
- Repairing or reporting damaged pathways, sidewalks, or fences.
- Assisting with leaf collection and seasonal clean-up activities (spring and fall).
- Preparing parks for special events or outdoor activities.
- Conducting safety checks of park areas, including playgrounds, picnic shelters, and sports fields.
- Reporting hazards, damages, or unsafe conditions to supervisors.
- Interacting with park visitors, providing information, and answering questions.
- Ensuring a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for all park visitors.
- Helping set up for community events, picnics, or sports tournaments.
- Assisting with event breakdown and cleanup.
Collaboration:
- Working with other maintenance staff to coordinate tasks and ensure timely completion.
- Following instructions from supervisors and maintaining efficient work schedules.
- Maintaining logs of completed tasks, equipment usage, and maintenance schedules.
- Reporting equipment malfunctions or issues to the supervisor.
These duties may vary based on the specific needs of the city or park system and could include other seasonal responsibilities.
- Requires daily attendance at assigned start time.
- Requires valid driver's license and a good driving record.
- Ability to withstand a physically demanding task outdoors.
- Ability to communicate courteously and cooperatively with other staff and the public.
- Successful candidate must pass pre-employment screening process.
- Applicant must be 18 years of age or older.
