Position: Police Officer I

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • On assigned shift, operate a police vehicle, bicycle, or walk to observe for criminal and traffic violations.
  • Look for suspicious activity and check on suspicious persons.
  • Check on disturbances of law and order and arrest suspects who violate the law.
  • Write and report incidents.
  • Respond to radio dispatches and answer calls/complaints.
  • Serve warrants and testify in court.
  • Other duties as assigned.

    • Requirements:

  • Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Ability to be a certified police officer in the Commonwealth of Virginia within twelve (12) months of date of appointment as a law enforcement officer.
  • 20-40 uncorrected vision and no proven symptoms of being color blind.
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors during various hours such as nights, weekends, and holidays.
