A dynamic and expanding veterinary organization is actively seeking an experienced Regional Medical Director to oversee a network of 20-35 veterinary hospitals in the Southwest region. This is a traveling role, and the ideal candidate should be based in Richmond, VA, though candidates from Raleigh, NC, Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA, Houston, TX, and Dallas, TX will also be considered.

The Regional Medical Director will play a key leadership role, working closely with veterinarians, practice managers, and regional directors to ensure exceptional patient care, foster positive client experiences, and drive operational excellence across the region. This individual will also mentor veterinary staff and support the organization’s goals of maintaining high medical standards and operational success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and collaborate with veterinary teams to provide outstanding medical care and client service.
  • Provide mentorship and clinical guidance to veterinarians across the region, ensuring continued professional development.
  • Support hospitals in filling urgent shifts and assisting with complex medical cases as necessary.
  • Oversee hospital operations, including appointment flow, client satisfaction, and hospital efficiency.
  • Review performance metrics (KPIs) and trends, providing actionable insights and recommendations to improve performance.
  • Ensure consistency with corporate policies and procedures, including medical protocols and compliance.
  • Conduct regular inspections of hospitals within the designated region to ensure quality standards are maintained.
  • Organize regional veterinary events to foster teamwork, knowledge sharing, and professional growth.
  • Address negative case outcomes, offering support to veterinarians and hospital staff.
  • Monitor financial performance and operational processes, tracking package utilization, pet count, and service revenue.
  • Travel to hospitals regularly, ensuring high-quality care and operational efficiency across the region.

Qualifications:

  • Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) or Veterinary Medical Doctor (VMD) degree from an AVMA-accredited college (or successful completion of the ECFVG or PAVE program).
  • Active veterinary license(s) in the state(s) of the hospitals being overseen.
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical veterinary experience, with prior leadership or mentorship experience preferred.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with a diverse range of teams and individuals.
  • Proven ability to analyze data, assess trends, and make informed decisions that support both medical and operational goals.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Willingness to travel regularly, including overnight stays, with company-provided travel accommodations.
