The NWVMC is located near the City of Spooner and is easily accessible off Highway 53 between Eau Claire and Superior. The cemetery is surrounded by a forest of towering trees offering a serene and welcoming Northwoods atmosphere.

Position SummaryThis position plays a vital role in maintaining a dignified and tranquil landscape serving as the final resting place for many of Wisconsin’s veterans. This is a labor-intensive position assisting cemetery caretakers with daily operations and maintenance tasks in all seasonal weather conditions.
Major activities include mowing cemetery grounds, trimming, weeding and mulching flower beds, and a wide variety of other grounds maintenance tasks.
The pay for this position is $21.53 per hour. This job does not offer employee benefits.
This position may work up to 40 hours a week from May through Labor Day. LTE jobs are limited to 1,039 hours in a 12-month period and do not include employee benefits.
Due to the nature of the positions, WDVA will conduct a criminal background check prior to an offer of employment.
The incumbent must possess a valid driver's license and meet the requirements set by WI DOA Fleet to drive a State of Wisconsin vehicle.
Minimum QualificationsMinimally-qualified applicants will have training and/or experience:
- Performing general gardening & landscaping duties (e.g., cultivation and/or care of trees, flowers and shrubs; propagation and/or development of turf and sod; evaluation of the need for fertilizer, herbicides, insecticides and fungicides; removal and/or loading of materials; core aeration and thatching; mowing and/or trimming lawns, etc.).
Well qualified applicants will have training and experience:
- Operating & maintaining heavy equipment and gas-powered machinery (e.g., lawn mowers, vehicles, tractors, backhoes, excavators, skid loaders, portable gas-powered equipment; inspect, clean, adjust, store, transport, load/unload, etc.)
Per Wisconsin Statute 230.26, Wisconsin residency is required for LTE appointments. The definition of Wisconsin residency for LTE employment can be found on the official website.
