The American Academy of English is an English language school with 2 campus locations in the San Francisco Bay Area of California: Our main campus is centrally located on Golden Gate Avenue in San Francisco, and the other is based in Oakland, approximately 8 miles (13 km) east of San Francisco. We offer the latest in modern English language programs and facilities. We have programs for all levels from beginners to advanced, as well as TOEFL preparation. The Academy is proud of its past students who have been accepted by over 50 colleges and universities throughout the United States. We have been helping students make the right choice since 1982.

At the American Academy of English, our faculty and staff consist of college and university trained professionals. The entire faculty are native speakers of English. All teachers have a college degree. Master teachers have completed graduate degrees in ESL or linguistics. Most of our  faculty have lived, taught and travelled extensively abroad. The Academy maintains the latest in audio, video, and computerized programs to make your learning of English easier.

English Language Certificate Courses:

- Intensive English language program:  Four levels of classes are offered including basic, beginners, intermediate and advanced.

- English language exam preparation courses:  The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) and The Test of English for International Communication (TOEIC).

- English language university preparation program.

- Homestay program with a local American family.

San Francisco, one of the premier tourist destinations in the world, offers everything that any cosmopolitan center can offer. The best in restaurants from every nation, historic landmarks, outstanding universities, state parks, gorgeous beaches and redwood forests. With the Pacific Ocean to the west, the Bay to the east and rolling hills throughout the city, San Francisco is world renowned for its breathtaking views.

The climate remains relatively cool and comfortable with day temperatures between 55 and 60 degrees. Evenings cool off to between 45 and 50 degrees. The Academy is located in San Francisco's Civic Center, a block away from City Hall, half a block from the Federal Building and minutes away from the San Francisco Public Library.

- Homestay Accommodation:  Live locally with an American family.

- Residence Clubs:  Many students stay in residence clubs when they first arrive in San Francisco. They are safe, friendly, and fairly inexpensive.

- Student Apartments:  For students staying more than three months, an apartment may be the ideal choice, especially if you can share one with a friend.

- Youth Hostels:  Youth Hostels are perhaps the most economical way to live in San Francisco. Hostel living means sharing a room with one other student. The Hostel closest to the Academy is Hostelling International.

- Roommate Service:  Several companies offer help in finding roommates: Metro Rent, Roommate Resource, Roommates Now, Roommate Referral and Craigslist.
