Design Foundation Course in Art and Design - 3 months / 12 weeks:
2 intakes per year, with courses starting in June and September

Our foundation course, taught in English, provides an excellent introduction to the world of Art & Design.
It is primarily designed for those who do not have a High School Diploma or equivalent, or those who are unsure of which design degree to choose.
On successful completion of this course, you will be eligible to enrol in whichever of our 3-year validated programmes you wish - Graphic Design, Fashion Design, or Interior Architecture.
International students can enter on a Tourist Visa, which is valid for 3 months.
The Foundation Course consists of 4 phases:
- Introduction (2 weeks)
Learn basic drawing techniques, and complete a range of drawings. You will cover the following subjects: Perspective; Composition; Colour: Primary & Secondary; Texture; Light.
- Experimentation (5.5 weeks)
The aim of this phase is to challenge your creativity, and enable you to understand your own interests and abilities.
You will tackle a wide range of projects, which aim to allow you to cover a range of mediums, and to try elements of each design discipline, from graphics, fashion, and interior architecture.
Starting with a design brief, you are expected to research the topic, and produce a high quality body of work.
- Specialisation (4 weeks)
After discussion with your tutor, you will choose an area of design to specialise in, and engage in self-directed work.
You will participate in a number of projects (at least 3) with some flexibility for those students that may still be unsure of what area to specialise in: Graphic Design, Fashion Design, or Interior Architecture.
This phase will introduce you to the concept of writing and working to a brief, and will provide an understanding of how design works in the commercial world.
- Presentation (0.5 weeks)
Because an key aspect of being a professional designer is compiling and presenting work, in this phase you are expected to present your self-directed projects. You will also build a portfolio of your work, to show prospective degree courses.
You will give a short presentation (10 minutes maximum) of your best project work, focusing on projects that you feel have been successful and explaining why.
You will also have 3 hours of English classes per week to prepare you for the IELTS level 6 exam.
All the basic design tools are taught at beginner level in order to prepare you to enter the 3-year validated courses.
