Medical Exam Prep Courses:
MCCQE Part 1
Course Duration: 4 weeks, 4 classes per week (usually 3 weekdays and one day on the weekend for 3 hours).• The Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) Part I is designed to assess the competence international medical graduates for entry into supervised clinical practice in postgraduate training programs. It assesses clinical skills, critical medical knowledge, and attitudes as outlined by the MCC (Medical Council of Canada) objectives.
• The MCCQE Part I is a one-day, computer based exam that will test you on the following topics:
- Medicine
- Family Medicine
- Obstetrics and Gynaecology (OB/GYN)
- Pediatrics
- Psychiatry
- Surgery
- Population Health, Legal, Ethical and Organizational Aspects (PHLEO)
- Clinical Decision Making
• The examination is based on the MCC Objectives, which are organized under the CanMEDS roles. Candidates graduating and completing the MCCQE Part I normally enter supervised practice. Aside from formal accreditation processes of the undergraduate and postgraduate education programs, the MCCQE Part I is the only national standard for medical schools across Canada and, therefore, is administered at the end of medical school.
MCCQE Part II
Course Duration: 4 weeks, 3 classes per week (usually 2 weekdays and one day on the weekend for 3 hours).
• The MCCQE Part 2 is designed to assess the competence of international medical graduates / medical professionals from around the world, as well as the candidate’s ability to demonstrate professional behaviors and attitudes at a level expected of a physician in independent practice in Canada. It specifically tests the skills, knowledge, and attitudes essential for medical licensure in Canada prior to entry into independent clinical practice.
• The MCCQE Part II is a two-day examination that consists of a series of clinical stations including pilot stations that do not count towards your total score. The examination includes problems in Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics, Psychiatry, Preventive Medicine and Community Health, and Surgery, as well as in similar disciplines that are considered essential for competence in general medicine and health care.
• Candidates need to have successfully passed the MCCQE Part I exam before taking the MCCQE Part II.
USMLE Preparation Courses
• The USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) is a three-step examination for medical licensure in the United States. • Each of the three steps of the USMLE complements the others; you need to have completed all three before assessment of readiness for medical licensure.
USMLE Step 1 prep course: 6 weeks
• The USMLE Step 1 preparation course in GTA will prepare you for your Step 1 exam under the assumption that you have already covered most of the materials in your first few years of undergraduate medicine. Major concepts in each of the major subject areas will be reviewed, and test-taking strategies will be reinforced.
Prerequisites: At least two years of medical school covering the basic sciences.
USMLE Step 2 CK prep course: 6 weeks
• This course will prepare you for your Step 2 Clinical Knowledge exam with the assumption that you have already covered most of the material in the first few years of undergraduate medicine including some experience in a clinical setting. Main concepts in each of the major subject areas will be reviewed and test-taking strategies will be reinforced.
Prerequisites: At least two years of medical school covering basic sciences. Some clinical rotation/clerkship experience.
USMLE Step 2 CS prep course: 4 weeks
Now also offering a 3-Day Intensive Crash Course.
• This course will prepare you for your exam based on the assumption that you have already covered most of the materials in the first few years of your undergraduate medicine program including at least one year in a clinical setting.
• At Focus Education Centre of Canada, we utilize designated mock clinical exam rooms, examination equipment and standardized patients (hired professional actors) in order to facilitate a learning experience as close as possible to the real exam setting.
Prerequisites: At least 3 years of medical school studies including clinical rotations/clerkship experiences. White coat, stethoscope, and reflex hammer.
NAC OSCE preparation course:
Course Duration: 4 weeks, 4 classes per week (usually 3 weekdays and one day on the weekend for 3 hours).• The NAC OSCE (National Assessment Collaboration - Objective Structured Clinical Examination) is a national standardized examination that aims to assess the readiness of an International Medical Graduate (IMG) for entrance into a Canadian residency program.
• It tests the skills, knowledge and attitudes of candidates seeking a licence to practice medicine in Canada, or the attitudes essential to enter postgraduate training in Canada.
• Comprising a series of clinical stations, the NAC examination presents typical clinical scenarios. Areas tested in this examination may include problems in medicine, obstetrics, gynecology, pediatrics, surgery, and psychiatry.
• You are rated by physician examiners on up to nine different competencies per station. These competencies include: Data interpretation, Diagnosis, History taking, Physical examination, Communication skills, Organizational skills, Language fluency, Investigations, Therapeutics and management.
