Griffith College Dublin:
Griffith College Dublin was established in 1974 and is now the largest independent college in Ireland, with a student population of over 5,000, including approximately 700 international students. It is based on a seven-acre campus in Dublin city centre. The Faculty of Design has an impressive reputation in the design community due to its teaching methods which focus on a high degree of interaction between staff and students. Student work is focused across a wide range of stimulating activities including practical workshops, specialist guest lectures, cultural trips, lab sessions, slide lectures, seminars and discussions. Live projects are worked on in conjunction with real-life clients.
Faculty of Design Courses:
- BA (Hons) in Interior Architecture (HETAC)
The honours degree programme has been designed in response to an increasing industrial demand for honours degree level employees with design skills relating to interior architecture, especially with regard to space planning, technology and visualisation. The graduates who successfully complete this programme will be able to design interiors in terms of space, materials, detailing and atmosphere. They will be able to sketch, draught, produce advanced computer aided visualizations, including walk-throughs, using the latest software packages, apply advanced technology and manage design projects. The degree programme has two main orientations: professional and academic. The syllabus for this programme has been created in consultation with the leading interior architects and interior designers in Ireland.
- BA in Interior Design (HETAC)
This three-year ordinary degree can be taken on a full-time or part-time basis. We aim to teach and inspire students to think, design and act professionally in any working environment they face. On successful completion of the degree, students will be able to produce creative and technically proficient architectural designs, which can be communicated through both computer technology and traditional media. Students will also be required to pursue research, apply knowledge of building technology, and organise, manage and operate interior architectural projects within the regulatory frameworks that govern design, architecture and construction. Like the Honours Degree, this programme has been created in consultation with the profession and is staffed by practising designers and subject specialists.
- Diploma in Interior Design (Griffith College Dublin)
This intensive two-year course is designed for students eager to become professional, creative and competent designers. Students will study a range of challenging and up-to-date subjects that address design, drawing, culture and technology. These will educate students in the demands and requirements of the contemporary design profession. The structure of the course and the size of the classes allow students to develop their own unique abilities.
Professional Design School:
- Preparing Artwork for Print
This course is designed to describe in detail the process of file preparation for popular commercial printing processes. The course will cover issues relating to both Digital and Lithographic printing. Popular software packages will be used to prepare postscript and PDF files that will be acceptable for printing purposes.
- Business Accounting for Designers
This course is designed for professionals, students or recent graduates in the creative industry who wish to gain and understanding of the basic concepts and ideas in financial accounting and tax. The course will assist participants to require an understanding of the language used by an accountant, tax man and bank. These skills are of vital importance in the development and growth of any business.

Faculty of Journalism and Media Courses:
- MA in Journalism and Media Communications
This postgraduate programme delivers a comprehensive syllabus of media skills. It is designed to equip students with the key practical competencies needed to work in a professional media environment today along with the critical academic depth of a post graduate qualification. During the course students will be challenged in real journalistic situations including producing articles to deadline, editing, designing and printing newspapers, magazines or creating online news content. Radio skills from recording and editing interviews, creating podcasts and running a radio station 24/7 are part of the course work in this programme.
- BA (Hons) in Journalism and Visual Media (HETAC)
This honours degree programme will inspire an intellectual capacity for self-expression and objective enquiry, while developing the practical skills necessary for media production. The art of writing, design, presentation, production, layout and publishing for newspaper, radio, video, photography and the Internet will be covered in this course. The course aims to produce versatile and confident graduates who can meet the needs of the existing communications industry, and identify and exploit further opportunities within media. The degree is recognised by the main professional journalists’ organisation, the National Union of Journalists (NUJ). In addition, full-time students are entitled to apply for NUJ student cards during their degree.
- BA in Journalism (HETAC)
This three year full-time degree programme concentrates on expanding the student’s knowledge and skills in the thriving world of journalism. Media-based training, both practical and academic, is central to the programme as we prepare students for a career in media. Students will learn to work in real journalistic situations – in print and broadcasting – over the course of the six semesters. National Union of Journalists (NUJ) recognition of the programme entitles students to a student NUJ Card for each year of the programme.
- Diploma in Media Techniques Television and Media (CGLI)
The purpose of this award-winning course is to provide students with a fundamental knowledge of the practical application of TV and video production and post-production techniques. Students on the programme, many of whom have no familiarity with the medium on course commencement, are taught how to propose and make video packages and the skills of post-production, utilising advanced industry software.
- Certificate in Photography (CGLI)
Further study is an option for students who successfully complete this course; the logical progression is to procede to 2nd year of the BA in Photographic Media.
- Certificate in Journalism or Radio Broadcasting (GCD)
Both of these programmes take four subjects from the Higher Diploma in Journalism and Media Communications and allow students, principally, to concentrate on acquiring a specific sub-set of journalism skills and ancillary subject expertise. Often, students who take one of these programmes go onto take the full diploma in subsequent academic semesters or years. Modules in both programmes are certified under HETAC’s Accumulation of Credits and Certification of Subjects Scheme (ACCS).
- Diploma in Music Technology and Studio Operations (CGLI)
This course has been designed to give students a fundamental knowledge of all aspects of music and sound technology, while providing the encouragement and scope for students to delve deeper into areas of interest. Tuition consist of a combination of theory based classes and practical tutorials which take place in our purpose built state of the art studio and dedicated media production suite running industry standard music technology soft-ware. Students have access to these facilities outside of class time and are expected to work in groups and independently to complete their assignments.
