New York Language Center:
Founded in 1985, New York Language Center (NYLC) is an English language school with four locations - in Upper West Side Manhattan, Midtown Manhattan, Jackson Heights in Queens, and The Bronx. We provide unparalleled English language instruction to international students of all levels - beginner, intermediate & advanced, and thousands of students from over 100 countries have learned English at NYLC. We offer Intensive English, TOEFL exam preparation and Business English classes designed to fit your individual needs. We have classes on weekday mornings, afternoons, evenings & weekends, depending on the location. You may study with us for as little as one week or as long as one full year.

English Courses in NYC:
For beginner, intermediate & advanced learners

• Intensive English Program (ILP)
Available at: Midtown Manhattan, Upper West Side Manhattan & Jackson Heights in Queens.

Taught at eight levels and three post-advanced levels, this intensive English course consists of 20 hours of classes per week (Monday - Friday: morning & afternoon) 

Improve the key skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing by interacting in English in real-life settings and through new themes each week. You will focus on integrated skills and work with authentic materials such as podcasts, online videos, and newspaper articles.

Our intensive English programs are our most popular programs and were designed for those who have more time to devote to their English language education. Ideal for foreign students visiting from abroad, the Intensive programs will quickly move you through your language course work.


• Semi-intensive ESL Program: 
Available at: Midtown Manhattan, Upper West Side Manhattan & Jackson Heights in Queens. 

Consisting of 16 hours of classes each week (Monday-Thursday: morning & afternoon), this is an integrated skills program that combines speaking, listening, reading, and writing. You will progress through a series of level, based on the results of your initial placement test.


• TOEFL Preparation & Pre-TOEFL Preparation:

The TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) exam tests the English language proficiency of non-native speakers and is an entry requirement for international students who wish to study at universities or colleges in the United States. A high TOEFL test score can also be a job requirement.

NYLC can help you to achieve a good score on your TOEFL iBT test. You must be at Upper Intermediate level to enter Pre-TOEFL and at a Post Advanced level of English to begin the program. If you are joining the school for the first time, we will give you an entrance test to determine your current level.

Our TOEFL preparation program begins with a developmental skills class and serves as a comprehensive and stimulating review class. While there is a focus on grammar, it promotes the improvement of all English language skills. 


• Private English Lessons:
Available at: Midtown Manhattan, Upper West Side Manhattan, The Bronx & Jackson Heights in Queens. 

If you have a limited schedule, or if there is a specific area of English that you would like to focus on, private English lessons may be the ideal option for you. Our professional instructors can customize the content of your classes to meet your needs, and offer flexible scheduling. You must book a minimum of 5 hours of private English tutoring.


• Weekend English Course:
Available at: Upper West Side Manhattan, The Bronx & Jackson Heights in Queens. 

Our weekend English classes consists of 4 hours per week on either Saturday or Sunday depending on the location. Our school in The Bronx offers a 10-week course while our Jackson Heights and Upper West Side school offer an 8-week course.


• Part-time ESL Programs:
Available at: The Bronx

- Evening English Classes: 6 weeks per session / 8 hours per week (Monday-Thursday)
- Daytime English Classes: 5 weeks per session / 10 hours per week (Monday-Friday)


• Everyday English Program:
Available at: Upper West Side Manhattan & Jackson Heights in Queens. 

Designed for students who live and work in New York, the program concentrates on teaching and building basic English language skills in order to gain confidence at work, at home, and in the community. It is taught in 5 levels of integrated skills and courses of fluency development. You practice listening, speaking, reading, and writing in all courses.. This course consists of 8 hours of classes per week (Monday-Thursday).


• Business English Classes:
Gain the English language skills you need to succeed in the workplace! Our Business English classes are designed to help you to learn the vocabulary and expressions you need for work situations, such as meetings, negotiations, and telephone conversations.

In addition, you learn how to interact with clients and colleagues through role plays and dialogues in English. The class includes group work involving case studies where students discuss company issues and brainstorm for solutions.


• Explore New York City - An ESL Writing Course:
This course aims to improve the basic English skills you need for proper writing, sentence structure, spelling, and punctuation. You will learn through brief but clear explanations and a myriad of exercises in which you can practice the skills you have learned, receive feedback and apply it to your writing. 

In addition, you go on excursions throughout New York and write about your experiences.

ESL Programs for Juniors - Summer & Year-Round:
• English courses for small groups of 10-15 juniors / teenagers from educational tour agents.
• English courses for individual juniors / teenagers accompanied by a guardian in NY.
