Severnvale Academy:
Severndale is an English language school located in Shrewsbury, the county town of Shropshire, in the West Midlands region of England. We offer an adult learning environment to people who want to learn quickly... and to enjoy doing so. All our courses are best suited to more mature adult learners, including those from professional backgrounds. Typically the average age at Severnvale is between 31 and 35 years old at all times of year.
GENERAL ENGLISH COURSE CONTENT:
GEN1 - 25 lessons per week
Part A – 10 lessons progressive language development & practice based mainly on coursebooks to give structure and direction to the process of language learning
Part B – 10 lessons ‘active communication skills’ - lessons which focus on the individual skills of communication – listening, speaking, reading and writing – to ensure rapid progress in the ability to understand and use English in real situations.
Part C - 5 lessons per week teacher-guided self-access study, computer-assisted learning, listening and pronunciation practice under the guidance of a senior teacher.
GEN2 & GEN3 - 30 lessons per week:
Part A – 10 lessons progressive language development & practice based mainly on coursebooks to give structure and direction to the process of language learning
Part B – 10 lessons ‘active communication skills’ - lessons which focus on the individual skills of communication – listening, speaking, reading and writing – to ensure rapid progress in the ability to understand and use English in real situations.
Part C - (included in GEN2 only) - 5 lessons per week intensive grammar to give additional support and guidance to achieve greater accuracy in English.
Part D - (included in GEN3 only) - 5 lessons per week 1-to-1.
Part E - 5 lessons per week teacher-guided self-access study, computer-assisted learning, listening and pronunciation practice under the guidance of a senior teacher.
GEN4 - 35 lessons per week:
Part A – 10 lessons progressive language development & practice based mainly on course books to give structure and direction to the process of language learning
Part B – 10 lessons ‘active communication skills’ - lessons which focus on the individual skills of communication – listening, speaking, reading and writing – to ensure rapid progress in the ability to understand and use English in real situations.
Part C - 5 lessons per week intensive grammar to give additional support and guidance to achieve greater accuracy in English.
Part D - 5 lessons per week individual (1-to-1) tuition to deal with individual language needs and problems, and/ or specialist preparation for examinations, presentations etc.
Part E - 5 lessons per week teacher-guided self-access study, computer-assisted learning, listening and pronunciation practice under the guidance of a senior teacher
EXAMINATION COURSES follow the same pattern as course Gen2, but with examination skills and practice replacing the intensive grammar module for the final 6 weeks before the examination date.
BUSINESS & EXECUTIVE ENGLISH COURSE CONTENT:
BUS1 - 32 lessons per week:
Part A – 10 lessons progressive language development & practice based mainly on coursebooks to give structure and direction to the process of language learning (max. 6, average 4-5 students.)
Part B – 10 lessons ‘active communication skills’ - lessons which focus on the individual skills of communication – listening, speaking, reading and writing – to ensure rapid progress in the ability to understand and use English in real situations (max. 6, average 4-5 students.)
Part C – 10 lessons per week ‘Module 1’ business English skills – lessons which deal with a wide range of business communication skills which are relevant to most professionals who need to use English – meeting, telephoning, making arrangements, socialising etc. (Max. 6, average 3 students)
Part D - 2 lessons per week teacher-guided self-access study, computer-assisted learning, listening and pronunciation practice under the guidance of a senior teacher.
BUS2 - 37 lessons per week:
Part A – 10 lessons progressive language development & practice based mainly on coursebooks to give structure and direction to the process of language learning (max. 6, average 4-5 students.)

Part C - 5 lessons per week which can either be additional grammar, or ‘Module 2’ business English skills – lessons which offer more advanced language skills for professionals – negotiation, presentation etc – plus business-specific skills (finance, law etc.) (Max. 6, average 2-3 students.)
Part D - 2 lessons per week teacher-guided self-access study, computer-assisted learning, listening and pronunciation practice under the guidance of a senior teacher
