Boston Area Spanish Exchange:
Located in downtown Crossing, Boston, MA, Boston Area Spanish Exchange, (BASE), is a teacher-founded and teacher-run Spanish school providing small-group Spanish tuition and private Spanish lessons with a conversational focus. We are bilinguals, linguists and experienced Spanish teachers passionate about languages, teaching and learning. We have over ten years of experience in language instruction. Boston is an exciting place, particularly culturally and linguistically, and we are pleased to present BASE to you in search of your Spanish language acquisition, and bridging cultural and linguistic gaps in the Boston area.
BASE teachers are native speakers and/or bilinguals who most importantly share a passion for languages as we do and the sincere desire to bridge gaps here in the Boston area through language instruction. Our Spanish teachers will neither be selected solely for their academic background nor solely for their engaging spirit essential for language teaching; both of these aspects are weighed in the selection process, and additional training will be provided to our teachers for the specific needs of our students.
Methodology & Curriculum:
Your Spanish classes with BASE are communicative, meaning: what you learn is in context, which is how one naturally learns any language as a child. This is a practical, perfomance-based, results-oriented method. The curriculum for your Spanish study in Boston Area Spanish Exchange draws from a number of resources, allowing for personalized learning, and will be guided loosely by a textbook that is used over the span of the small-group program, from introductory to conversational, encouraging as much independent study as possible outside the classroom, enabling us to focus on the contextualization of what is being studied, by introducing the material and vocabulary into speaking/listening and reading/writing skills practice.
BASE offers morning, afternoon, evening and weekend classes and activities. Invite-a-Friend-Free opportunity continues!
Small-group tuition:
Our main Spanish program has a maximum of 8 students, and consists of the following levels: preliminary, basic, intermediate, advanced. The main BASE program has a duration ranging from four to twelve courses depending on the intensity: four Intensive courses, seven semi-intensive courses, or twelve weekly courses.
Spanish for Specific Purposes:
Customized programs are developed for groups in the following (not limited to) fields: Medical; Social Work; Business; Travel; Legal; Law Enforcement.
Private Lessons:
Private classes, one-to-one, or up to three students with similar needs and learning styles. Dates and schedules for private classes are determined according to your convenience.
Culture & Conversation Courses:
Participants will gain valuable linguistic and cultural exposure. Elective courses serve as an opportunity to maintain, practice and perfect the use of the Spanish language. You will be able to select from a number of electives with varying durations, intensities, class-sizes, levels, etc., a few of which may be phonetics, grammar, reading, among others, or Spanish for specific purposes, such as medical, legal or business Spanish; these additional classes further personalize your learning and may be taken singularly or in combination with your program.
Spanish Language Culture & Film:
The objective of this course is to improve Spanish conversation skills through the discussion of four films. Students will achieve this goal by exploring and analyzing various current cultural, political, and social events in Latin America through film; conversations will be in Spanish and in a casual environment.
In-city Spanish Immersion Program:
If you don't have the time or the resources to travel abroad, but you want to maximize your exposure, BASE's "In-city Immersion" program is for you. Immerse yourself with a full day or weekend of exposure with classes and activities. In addition to learning in your communicative classes, we offer vocabulary-building activities, and more.
