Singaporeans in Japan with lost or stolen passports should do the following:
- Lodge a police report at the nearest police station (and not the Japanese "koban" or neighbourhood police) and obtain a copy of the police report or acknowledgement slip. The police station will normally issue a copy of the report. Please note that Japanese police officers may not be able to speak English.
- Inform the Embassy or Consulate in Osaka or Nagoya.
- Visit the Embassy or Consulate in Osaka or Nagoya to apply for a temporary travel document ("Document of Identity"). You will be required to bring the following:
- Police Report
- Proof of identity (for e.g., Singapore identity card, driver’s license, etc)
- One passport size photograph; and
- Flight details to Singapore, if available.
The fee for the “Document of Identity” is Yen 1,200.
The "Document of Identity" is for one-way travel to Singapore only, and needs to be surrendered to the Immigration Officer upon return. A new passport needs to be applied at ICA for replacement.
Japanese Nationals do not need to apply for a visa to travel to Singapore for leisure/business. However please ensure that your passport is valid for at least 6 months from the date of entry.
The Embassy and Honorary Consulate Generals are closed on Saturdays and Sundays, Japanese public holidays and Singapore’s National Day (9 August).
